Ayodhya verdict

Updated: Jul 30, 2020

There’s a city called Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh , India. In Hindu mythology this place is referred to as the birthplace of lord rama. There was a temple of lord rama in Ayodhya before the arrival of emperor Babur in the 16th century. After he came to Ayodhya, he ordered to demolish the lord rama temple in Ayodhya and ordered for a mosque to be built upon the remains of the demolished rama temple. Later on that mosque was known as Babri Masjid. On the 6th day of the December month in 1992 , a large group of angry hindus demolished the mosque and started protesting against the government asking for a temple to be rebuilt on the same piece of land.

After almost three decades the Supreme Court of India took the case and passed a judgement to put a stop to the conflict between the hindu and Muslim communities of India. The judgement stated that a temple should be rebuilt and in return the government will provide a 5 acres land to the Muslim community to build a mosque at a different piece of land.

This verdict was a successful one as the people feared that after the release of verdict the state would become more prone to violent protests. But the outcome was totally different from that expected. Another reason that this was a just judgement given by the Supreme Court is that the hindu community got it’s land back as the first to be built was a hindu temple on that land which was invaded and demolished by the Muslim community emperor. It was just for Muslim community as they got a 5 acres land in concession by the government because of the forced demolition done by a group of angry hindus.
